Looking back at 2022

Looking back: our 2022

January 11, 2023
Merelbeke

What a year it has been! This year we won some pretty major projects and saw our clients’ businesses grow and thrive. Alongside new clients, we also welcomed a lot of new enthusiastic colleagues who by now have become invaluable members of our team. Let’s head back in time and look at 2022 from a bird’s perspective.

12 new Sirus astronauts

In 2022, we welcomed no less than 12 new colleagues! And honestly, we couldn’t be happier. The newest Sirus astronauts are launched on their own ambitious space journey in our company where we’ll help them grow and guide them on the career path of their choosing.

But who are the newest members of our Sirus family? Meet Solution Architect Bert, Data Consultants Mathias and Ben, .NET Consultants JanPascalBrechtMarcWouterKevin, and Filip, Front-end developer Niels, and Enterprise Architect Gert.

Not only did we welcome 12 new colleagues, we also got to know two fun interns and one keen job studentKillian joined us as a marketing intern, Abdellah further developed his .NET skills at our company, and job student Rune supported our different departments.

This year, we put a lot of effort into our recruitment campaign. We wanted future employees to get the chance to get to know our company. In order to do that, we had to stand out and be noticed.

Enter the NASA campaign!

The NASA campaign revolved all around one fun idea: why not go to NASA together with our future colleagues? Why, you ask? The better question is ‘Why not?’. NASA is world leader in the innovation department with top-notch software and technologies. So what better place for developers to get inspired than in Florida, between the palm trees and space tech? As it turned out, this campaign was an absolute hit. And in March, 2023, we’ll finally depart. You can follow our journey via our social media channels Instagram and Linkedin.

What else did 2022 have to offer? 10 years of Sirus

As we’ve existed for over ten years now, it was time to celebrate. We definitely made sure to pop some bubbly and put on our most glamorous party outfits. Together with our clients, partners, colleagues, and families, we hosted an amazing party at Verbeke Foundation. In the greenhouse filled with eccentric art, we showed off our best (or worst?) dance moves and knew right then and there we were ready for another ten years.

Check more photos from our anniversary event in our photographic overview.

Team parties

But that event wasn’t the only party we hosted with our team. In October 2022, we had another office party at Le Bateau in Ghent where we put on our sailor cap and enjoyed lovely talks and delicious drinks. To further fuel our festive mood, we ended the year with an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party where all colleagues showed up in their most beautiful ugly outfits.

Sirus Sporty Summer Challenge 2022

But all this partying and snacking had to be justified… Introducing the Strava Sporty Summer Challenge 2.0: our sports ambitions for 2022.

Together, we exercised for a total of 1958 hours and 20 minutes during a four-month period (started in June, ended in October), with the whole team! We nearly achieved our ambitious goal of 2500 hours of sports in 4 months. But no worries, this means we already have our challenge for next year!

Agoria & Smart City Awards

Furthermore, we also won no fewer than two awards last year!

Stad BruggeStad Roeselare and Stad Leuven didn’t only win the Agoria award for Best Smart City Project, but also the prestigious Enabling Technologies award at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. The three cities won because of their innovative Smart Data Platform developed by Urban Sense (a Cegeka – Sirus consortium).

On the Smart City Platform, the three cities are sharing real-time data about air quality, noise pollution, water levels, and crowd measurement. This way, they’re becoming smarter and are able to make better decisions.

Find out more about the Urban Sense Platform.

Partners (Sirus – Cegeka – Microsoft – Crowdscan and CityMesh) came together at the Microsoft Center for the Urban Sense event on the 20th of May 2022 to share their knowledge about how data can support decisive policy-making.

Urban Sense x Microsoft event

All partners involved with the Urban Sense Data Platform for the cities Brugge, Leuven and Roeselare (Sirus – Cegeka – Microsoft – Crowdscan and CityMesh) came together at the Microsoft Center for the Urban Sense event on the 20th of May 2022 to share their knowledge about how data can support decisive policy-making. A summary of their advice can be found in our blog post.

Techorama: the IT conference

In 2022, we went to Techorama. The deep knowledge IT conference in Antwerp with a Vegas-like attitude. We met with a whole lot of potential new colleagues, got inspired and we can well say it was a smashing success. You can be sure to find us there again next year!

Competence meeting in The Beacon

Every month, we organize competence evenings to bring the Sirus team closer together and allow for an open peer-to-peer discussion. This year, we decided to expand these competence evenings and open them up to everyone who was interested.  Tim LangensStieven D’Hooge and Jen Lisabeth took the stage at our Open Competence Evening in The Beacon | Innovation Community in Antwerp. Our purebred, tried and tested Sirus developers elaborated in all detail on RPC and Open AI. An interesting evening it turned out to be!
