OpenLDES

Sirus is a proud voting member of the OpenLDES ecosystem.

In short

OpenLDES makes it possible to share dynamic, continuously updated data at scale using open standards and open-source technology. As a voting member and technical advisor within the OpenLDES ecosystem, Sirus contributes to its technical architecture, roadmap and quality standards, helping organisations put Linked Data Event Streams into practice.

What is OpenLDES ?

OpenLDES is a community that aims to enable semantic and dynamic data sharing at scale. To make this possible, OpenLDES builds and maintains open-source components. These components allow data to be published and shared not as static files, but as living, continuously updated data streams, known as Linked Data Event Streams (LDES).

Instead of repeatedly requesting an entire dataset, organisations can subscribe to changes. New, updated or deleted data is automatically made available in a standardised and reusable format. This makes data collaboration faster, more efficient and future-proof.

OpenLDES originated from the Flemish recovery project Vlaamse Smart Data Space (VSDS) and has since proven its value across a wide range of domains, including environment, water, mobility, nature management and public services.

The technology also aligns with European standards and initiatives such as SEMIC and the Common European Data Spaces, making OpenLDES a key technology for open and interoperable data sharing across sectors and borders.

The software is available under the EUPL licence. It is free to use, further develop and host, while the intellectual property remains with the Flemish Community. Those who want to get started can find the full technical documentation on openldes.org, the source code on GitHub and a practical tutorial with examples.

Sirus within the OpenLDES ecosystem

Sirus is part of the OpenLDES Steering Committee, together with the Department of Environment, Digitaal Vlaanderen, imec, the Agency for Home Affairs, the Agency for Nature and Forests, the Flanders Environment Agency, Aquafin and Movias, among others.

Within the Steering Committee, Sirus acts as a technical advisor. In practice, this means that we:

As a voting member, we also help shape the strategic direction, roadmap and quality standards of the ecosystem. Our goal is to make it easier for organisations to start working with LDES themselves.

Building an open data ecosystem

The OpenLDES ecosystem, including Sirus, is committed to four key principles:

We contribute to technology that is freely available and supported by the wider community, in accordance with the EUPL licence.
Decisions on the roadmap, releases and quality standards are made collectively, with meeting minutes and documents shared publicly.
Through workshops, best practices and active involvement, we encourage the adoption of OpenLDES, both within our own organisation and among our clients and partners.
We help ensure that LDES components remain robust, scalable and aligned with Flemish and European standards, so data can be exchanged securely and efficiently across sectors and organisations.
